| Why SchEMS? |
|
With an objective of fulfilling such
gap between the policy making process and the availability
of trained human resources, the School of Environmental
Management and Sustainable Development (SchEMS) was
established under the Pokhara University Act, 1995.
SchEMS is an autonomous, non-profit making academic
and research institution, whose primary aim is to contribute
in policy research and prepare qualified skilled human
resource base in environmental management and sustainable
development. SchEMS intends to re-Orient its education
system towards sustainable development as per the recommendation
of Agenda-21 of UN Earth Summit of the Education Policy
of Nepal Government. |
| What SchEMS offers? |
|
Bachelor of Science
(B.Sc.) in Environmental Management: This is
a four years degree program providing an academic, yet,
practical and job-oriented degree.
Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Environmental
Management: This is a multidisciplinary academic
program (having a time span of two years). This academic
program aims to produce environmental managers, who
can play a crucial role in incorporating the environmental
concerns during decision-making and also dealing with
the emerging complex environmental problems.
SchEMS Training and Capacity Building
Service: SchEMS offers short-term specializes
training packages on a wide range of subjects related
to environmental management and sustainable development.
SchEMS Research and Consultancy
Services: SchEMS conducts research and consultancy
services on a wide range of subjects related to environmental
management and sustainable development, at the request
of the clients, such as government agencies, NGOs, private
sectors and international agencies.

of SchEMS's academic programs? |

SchEMS's academic programs
aim to contribute in conducting policy research and
producing highly qualified and skilled professionals.
SchEMS currently runs 7th batch in B.Sc. and 6th batch
in M.Sc. levels in Environmental Management program
under the faculty of Science and Technology, Pokhara
University. All of SchEMS graduates are either employed
by various agencies or pursuing higher studies abroad
and within the country. |

|
SchEMS has a network with national, regional and international
institutions such as Ministry of Science Technology
and Environment (MOSTE), Ministry of Industry and Commerce
(MOIC), Ministry of Forest and Soil Conservation (MFSC),
Department of Roads (DOR), Department of Industry, Department
of Forest, Kathmandu Municipality, Independent University
of Bangladesh (IUB), Nagarjuna University, India, University
of Iowa, USA, Academy for Educational Development (AED),
USA, South Asian Regional Institute for Energy Trade
and Development (SARI/E), WFP, United Nations, IUCN-The
World Conservation Union, etc. SARI (USAID) has recognized
SchEMS as the regional focal point for information dissemination
in South Asia Region. SchEMS has also signed MOU with
Sustainable Challenge Foundation (SCF), Consensus Building
Institute (CBE), Massachusetts Institute of Technology
(MIT), USA for the promotion of sustainable development
through consensus building in the region. |
| Am I eligible for SchEMS's
academic programs? |
|
To join
in our M.Sc. in Environmental Management Program students
should hold Bachelor's degree in technical fields and
students completing intermediate or equivalent level
in technical subjects can join in our B.Sc. in Environmental
Management Program. |
