Post-Graduate Diploma (PGD) in Environmental Management

Introduction
School of Environmental Management and Sustainable Development (SchEMS) offers one year Post Graduate Diploma Course in Environmental Management and Sustainable Development (PGD in Environmental Management Mgmt) to prepare skilled human resources in Environmental Management and Sustainable Development. Courses for PGD in Environmental Management Mgmt. has been designed to cater to a wide range of disciplines aiming at providing them practical and conceptual knowledge on environmental management. Environmental management, as a fundamental component of the sustainable development, has been integrated in development activities, business management and in schools and adult educations through the introduction of this course. Therefore, PGD in Environmental Management Mgmt Program provides the basic concepts, practical knowledge and environmental management skills for scientists, development workers, business personnel, development planners, teachers both at schools and at higher education.

Post Graduate Diploma Course in Environmental Management is one year (2 Semesters), multi disciplinary and academic program. The objective of PGD in Environmental Management Mgmt Program is to prepare skillful, qualified and with sound knowledge on practical and problem solving skills who can integrate environmental components in development planning and implementation, business promotion and management and teaching at school and higher education. The program will also fulfill the requirements of trained human resources in short span of time. The uniqueness and specialty of this program includes the effective teaching of sciences, economics, environment, social science, laws, policies, rules, related to environmental management and sustainable development; each of which is infused with appropriate practical exercise such as EIA, IEE, SEA, GIS, Cleaner Production, Quality Control, ISO 1400, monitoring and auditing and computer modeling. These are coupled with sufficient field exercises, case studies, demonstration and illustration and examples from national and international perspectives.

Duration of the program
The program of study for the Bachelor's degree in Environmental Management is over a period of eight semesters (four academic years) covering a total of 120 credit hours. The academic year begins normally in the month of September each year.


Course Outline for PGD in Environmental Management

Objective

The main objectives of the PGD Environment Management Program are to:
provide practical and up-to-date knowledge on environmental management to development workers, planners, and implementations so that they will be able to integrate environmental concerns in development planning and implementation for achieving sustainability.
provide practical skills and knowledge on environmental management tools such as EIA, IEE, SEA, GIS and Environmental Monitoring and Auditing, Environmental Management System, Strategic Planning, Business Promotion and Management. The program will focus on developing skills on conducting studies, implementation and reviewing of the reports and monitoring and auditing of program implementation.
provide adequate and sufficient knowledge on environment, population and health for teaching at schools, communities and NGO levels and to provide sufficient practical knowledge on Ecology, Environment and Ecosystem management.

The medium of instruction and examination in this program shall be English.

Eligibility

The prospective individuals with Bachelors degree or equivalent in Science, Commerce and Business, Engineering, Social Sciences, Liberal Arts from recognized institution or university are eligible to get admission into PGD in Environmental management course, however, candidates seeking to admit in the program should appear in the entrance examination organized by SchEMS.

Students trained in this program would find an opportunity to work in a wide range of development projects, financial institutions, banks, trade and WT related activities, industry, school and adult education, donors organizations, government agencies at centre and local levels, DDCs municipalities etc, as environmental planner, workers and implementators.
