B.Sc. (Environmental Management & Sustainable Development)

Introduction
SchEMS offers a Bachelor is Science (B. Sc.) Degree in Environmental Management in the undergraduate program. This course is introduced for the production of qualified environmental management professionals with leadership quality and problem solving aptitude. The unique feature of this academic program is the integration of scientific, social, cultural economic aspects of the environment. The Environmental Management degree builds on the understanding of the planning systems and processes of environmental changes and offers training in the management techniques, required to put into effect the principle of sustainable development.

Course Outline for B.Sc. in Environmental Management


Objective
The main objectives of B. Sc. Program are to:

provide understanding about environment, environmental issues, problems and it's interrelationship with other related fields
to produce qualified environmental managers who can make decisions independently on diverse environmental issues
apply the concepts of environmental management and environmental analysis in the professional areas
familiarize and equip the students with environmental management tools and make them eligible for higher studies and research
 

 
Duration of the program
The program of study for the Bachelor's degree in Environmental Management is over a period of eight semesters (four academic years) covering a total of 120 credit hours. The academic year begins normally in the month of September each year.


Medium of Instruction and Examination
The medium of instruction and examination in this program shall be English.

Targeted Groups

Students having intermediate degree and willing to enter into new academic program
Individuals interested in acquiring abilities essential to face new challenges and wishing to gain more applied knowledge
Individuals working in various organizations including schools, governmental and non-governmental organizations as lower level officers
Students seeking career in environment sector program

Eligibility
The prospective individuals with an Intermediate or 10+2 in Science, Forestry, Agriculture, Engineering and other related technical subjects or equivalent from a recognized institution are eligible to enter into the B. Sc. degree course in Environmental Management. Besides, the basic academic requirement, an entrance examination will be held.

Career Opportunity
The candidate should submit the completed application form and two recommendation letters from the referees. Selected candidates will be invited to appear in the entrance examination. An entrance examination will be held normally during august of every fall semester. Following, the test the candidates scoring successfully in the entrance test are invited for an interview. The final selection will be made after the interview and the candidates are considered eligible for the academic program.
