Development Activities at Different Places in Nepal for
Directors/Officers from Bhutan. |

| SchEMS
conducted training on Environmental Management of Industries
and Development Activities at Different Places in Nepal
for high level directors/officers of Bhutan. This training
was conducted for planners, decision-makers and implementers
who are extremely important because such programs provide
them with a complete insight into: i) the effects of
the environmental integration in the project, ii) the
stages of the project cycle at which environmental integration
is made, iii) tools, techniques and approaches adopted
during implementation and operation, iv) some understanding
of the cost implication of implementation of environmental
components, v) difficulties and constraints during the
implementation and |

operation and, vi) the degree of environmental benefits.
In addition, it is also helpful to investigate whether
the implementation of environmental components in the
project has created some unnecessary complications for
the project execution. This training was held form 13th
to 19th April 2007. |

The
main objectives of this training were to: |

investigate
projects in which environmental integration has yielded
significant benefits; |
| » |
bserve
the cases where environmental integration has made in
the projects execution; |
| » |
learn
the project where no environmental consideration has
been made and the consequences are visible; |
| » |
make
them familiar with the tools, techniques, and approaches
undertaken while implementing and operating the project; |
| » |
provide
them lessons on the areas where bad environmental practices
are prevailing. |

The inaugural program was held on 13th
April 2007 at Hotel Del` Annapurna, Durbarmarg where
Executive Chairman of SchEMS Prof. Santa Bd. Gurung
inaugurated the program. Mr. Surya Man Shakya (Director)
welcomed all the participants form Bhutan. |

The
program was intended actual field visits to the various
industries of Nepal rather than lectures and presentations.
On the next day of the inauguration, the participants
moved for field visit at Hedauda Industrial District
(HID) and they visited lots of industries there and
experienced the integration of CP and EMS in the Industry.
They visited the factories of Asian Paints, Nepal Tobacco
Company, Birat Leather Industry, Hetauda Milk Supply,
Mahashakti Soap and Chemical Industry, National Casting
Pvt. Ltd., Nepal Vanaspati Ghee Industry and Yeti Paints
at HID and Gorkha Brewery Pvt. Ltd at Nawalparasi District. |

A
small and informal closing session was held on 19th
April at SchEMS Hall where the team leader from the
participants Mr. Rinzin Dorji debriefed about all the
activities held during the training program. Dr. Ram
B. Khadka, Principal of SchEMS, distributed certificates
of participation with a small token of love to all the
participants from Bhutan. |
