Introduction
SchEMS is running Environmental Management course
at the postgraduate level. Environmental management
being a multidisciplinary subject, the course
gives due emphasis to social, cultural and economic
aspects of the environment. This course is balanced
in the sense that multidisciplinary fields of
knowledge have been integrated to provide a comprehensive
working knowledge on the environmental management.
M.Sc course is a two year (four semester) of intensive
and comprehensive teaching and practical input.
The first semester of the program is focused on
fundamental knowledge courses while the second
semester is focused on environmental management
tools such as EIA, SEA, CP, EMS, RA, GIS and Strategic
Planning. The third semester courses are focused
on advanced courses and development of thesis
proposal. Fourth semester is dedicated to a 12
credit thesis study in which in-depth research
is carried out. SchEMS provides all necessary
facilities for the research with an appropriate
supervisor. Upon completion and on the recommendation
of the research supervisor, the thesis should
be submitted to the Examination Board of Pokhara
University and the final examination will be held
according to the rules and regulation of Pokhara
University for the award of M.Sc. in Environmental
Management.
Objective
The main objectives of M. Sc. Programme are to:
1. Offer the courses and research study covering
fundamentals, environmental management tools and
advanced courses.
2. Provide an opportunity of carrying out thesis
or research using cross- cutting tools and state
of the art information.
3. Provide an opportunity for the students to
acquire the advance knowledge on the subject and
enhance the individual skills and expertise.
4. Contribute to policy research and support the
concerned institution in the country.
Career
Opportunities
With the enforcement of environmental protection
legislation in Nepal, the enforcement agencies
at the central, regional and local levels require
trained human resources in environmental management.
Good career opportunities also exist in INGOs,
NGOs and several other statutory and voluntary
organizations, as well as the donor agencies involved
in development works may need such human resources.
